LGH gets $1.4m. for facilities GREATER VANCOUVER Regional District directors approved Wednesday a $1.4 million project to upgrade maternity, labor- delivery and nursery fecilities at Lions Gate Hospital. LGH executive vice-president Eric O'Dell said the approval was **very positive’? news for the hospital, but added that LGH will need closer to §2 million for the project. He said further negotiations for the extra funding will be con- ducted with the Ministry of Health. Few modifications have been made to the hospital’s maternity facilities slace 1961. “What we have is a facility designed 30 years ago,’’ O'Dell said, “and attitudes, expectations and technology have undergone significant changes.”’ H Included in the renovations will be seven birthing rooms, which wiit enable patients to remain in one bed and one room during both labor and delivery. LGH is currently the only hospital in the region that does not have birthing rcoms. Cost of the project will be shared 60-40 by the provincial Ministry of Health and the GVRD. ! O’Dell said architectural plans will be drawn/up over the winter and actual construction, which would take approximately three months, would begin next summer. f NV man guilty of trafficking A 34-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was sentenced Wednes- day to six months in jail after he pleaded guilty to trafficking in cocaine. Glen Sidney Martin was originally charged with trafficking in cocainz, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of marijuana in connection with a Sept. 23 drug seizure. Appearing before Judge J.K. Shaw, Martin pleaded guilty to the trafficking charge. ; The Crown entered a stay of proceedings in the other two charges.
