Mailbox Cops make better judges Dear Editor: Not many letters to the Editor are better than Doug Collins, but, Lawyers Make Laws, by D.D. Cranfield of Saskatoon, Jan. 26, is the most factual I have ever seen in the North Shore News. In 1972, 1 wrote a similar letter titled ‘‘The Brotherhood" in The Thin Blue Line, a publication by Vancouver policemen. I pointed out the growing Lisi of restrictions placed upon policemen to prevent them from jailing crim- inals, Judges are always searching for ways to let criminals go free, and the Trudeaus, Turners, Basfords & thousands of other Jawyers and politicians keep churning out laws which make it easy for criminals to stay out of jail, while they are busy practising their trade of robbing the taxpayers. 1 also poirted out, as does Mr. Cranfield, that as long as only lawyers can become judges, we'll have lots of law but damn littl justice. The very best judges would be available from the ranks of retired policemen, with high arrest records and thousands of hours of court experience. In this category, with 30 years experience, although I don’t speak Latin, ... 1’m available ... In my article in 1972, 1 pointed out that lawyers, judges, pro- secutors and defence council are all members of the same Brotherhood, Proposed -bank drab Dear Editor: In the smaller cities in the U.S.A., bank buildings set the trend for attractive architecture and landscaped surroundings. All the banks in Santa Barbara and Carmel are masonary struc- tures, framed in gardens. with shake or tile roofs. A small wood sign by the path is the only adver- tisement. Our West Vancouver banks are devoid of any planting. Their sterile fronts and ugly signs would not be welcome in California. The Royal Bank is now propos- ing to destroy the present Hollyburn Post Office at !7th & Marine and construct yet another bank. On the roof of this small bank - building they plan to park 21 cars with a ramp from 17th Street. One can well imagine the hazard created when the 22nd car has to back down over the sidewalk and into the trhffic at 17th. Surely West Vancouver deserves something better than this in this choice location. Perhaps our plan- ner should ge to California and take his camera. G. Baynes West Vancouver Engineer disputes Collins Dear Editor: Just:the sort of slip you would anticipate Professor Collins to show, Saying engineers can't need to know about. who and whom. They do. We have to write reports and things. Maybe Professor Collins is out to insult the integrity of engineers whom could care less about him. When all is said or done, in effect, engineers write as good as anyone in the globe. Henry Smith, P.Eng.
