Vacation time again and isn’t life wonderful for those two or three all too short weeks before it’s back to the grind stone? , But it doesn’t have to be that way. Imagine for a moment that you own a vacation home. And imag- ine also that it’s not all that far away. Every weekend, or every day if you’re within commuting distance, you can isolate yourself from the cacaphonous world of blar- ing horns, screeching tires, hot pavement, and masses of A LIST ON A PIECE ; OF PAPER THE A WAYS WE USE A ar _ YOUWONT WIN APRZE | | BUT YOU WILL REMEMBER | | TOMORROW'S FORESTS | ... TODAY'S CHALLENGE | people all scurrying hur- riedly about seeming to go nowhere. Away from the hustle and madness of our wonderful civilization and back to that home in the woods, or on the shore of the lake. Home to where the transi- tion from big city business person to that relaxed, laid back person you were meant to be. Vacation homes are far more than ‘just another expense’. In today’s fast paced world, the vacation home has become a refuge, a place to where you’ can retreat to experience life in the truly relaxed way it was meant to be experienced. Sitting on the front porch as the sun sinks at the end of the day, or listening to the loons cry in the evening over the water. Walks in the woods, along the banks of the lake or river, or simply reading a good book as the night folds its dark blanket over the cottage. Not a bad way to recover from the world of the city. How about taking the rod and either getting the boat or finding your favorite pool and meditating on the sins of the world while you cast for the elusive "big one’ that’s been seen in the lake for years, knowing how good it will taste after it’s been cooked over the open fire -you’ve built just outside the cottage. Having friends come up for the weekend somehow seems more fun than if you did the same thing back home in the city. Friend- ships become closer, con- versations become more open and relationships more honest when people gather in quite littke pockets of the outdoors. Even those tasks that have to be accomplished take on more meaning at the summer cottage or vacation home. There is little more satis- fying than a hard days work in the sun, working up a good sweat, then sitting back to meal that always tastes better than even the most expensive item from that gourmet restaurant back home. It’s hard to beat the vacation home, whether it be the big and elaborate year round type of building, the simplest little cottage, or a recreation vehicle that pro- vides you with the home you take with you. Vacations are important times that should refresh us and give us time to look back at where we've been and where we’re going. And they should give us the time and space to help arm us for the journey ahead. The vacation home is, perhaps, the ideal way to sit back, relax and recharge our batteries.
