THE CROWD was a
sea of red, white, and
blue. The weather,
despite all predictions,
refused to be bad;
union jacks, maple
leaves and_= school
children with bouquets

were €verywhere.

When Queen Elizabeth
and Prince Phillip left
Vancouver Friday morning
they left behind lots of happy
memories for the people
who had lined up for hours
for a royal glimpse.

Nursing blistered feet and
a headache after tracking
the royal footsteps for a day
gives one a certain empathy
and a great deal of respect
for the subject of the chase.

From the moment the
Britannia docked Wed-
nesday morning the race was
on for media and loyal fans
ahke to keep up with the
Royal couple who remained

gracious and smiling.

Reporters raced around
town in old green army buses
under police escort breaking
every law of the road to get
to the scheduled events on
time, while the the Queen
remained relaxed and un-

flapped throughout the
hectic day.

was the most successful for
people who wanted -a good
glimpse.

Across from the hospital,
her next stop after the Asian
Centre, is Beta Theta Pi
fraternity house. It was hung
with welcoming flags, and
the roof and driveway were
covered with fraternity
members in red, white, and
blue rugby shirts, drinking
tea.

Fraternity president Dave
McAdam of West Van said
they planned to invite Her
Majesty in for a cup of
Canada’s finest, however her
motorcade drove by and she
missed her cuppa. Pity. But
they gave her three cheers

anyway.
