Council of the Canadian Home Builder Association has chosen a hew executive to lead them in a particularly challenging year. Vancouver developer An- dre Molnar has been ap- pointed president. Aiding him are immediate past- president Bill Strain, Brian Usher of Vernon as first vice-president, Gary Mclanis of Victoria as second vice- president and Olin Anton of Vancouver as secre- tary/treasurer. The Canadian Home Builders Association of B.C., which represents the residential construction in- dustry, is comprised of nine Jocal branches representing every region of B.C. and the Yukon. The CHBA were in- dustry leaders in the past when they spear-headed, along with Energy, Mines and Resources Canada, the R-2000 Program — a name now synonymous with quali- ty construction. That leadership continues with the new Housing In- dustry Training Centre at the B.C. Institute of Technology in Burnaby. Cut-away walls ; 4 in this two-store,, 5,000- Photo submitted square-foot building reveal the advantages of wood frame construction and in- sulation techniques that provide R-2000 energy effi- ciency. The main floor includes classroom and demonstra- tion areas for students and a technical library that will be a resource centre for profes- sional builders. Derick Turner, the R-2000 techno- logy expert for the CHBA- B.C., and executive director Keith Sashaw will direct ac- tivities from their ad- ministrative offices on the second floor of the building. The facility is the first of its kind in Canada and one that will be a model for other training centres while keeping B.C. housing con- struction technology and ex- pertise on the forefront of Canada’s largest industry. The Housing Industry Training Centre represents a progressive stride toward a priority of the CHBA-B.C.’s new executive: encouraging job creation in B.C. ‘When somebody buys a new house,’’ emphasized Andre Molnar at the recent CHBA-B.C. annual con- ference in Kelowna, ‘“‘they make a positive contribution to the economy, by employ- ing people and generstine economic activity.’ The public is invited to tour the Training Centre Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 pin. until ecember 6.
