Lawrence Pomeroy, director of the Lower Lonsdale Seniors Association (LLSA), said 180. signatures of the association's membership and 120 signatures from other area seniors had been collected on the petition. Impetus for the petition, which calls for the return of regular bus service along St. Georges Avenue and 15th Street and Sunday service along First Street and St. Patricks Avenue, came from a Nov. 18 LLSA open forum that addressed the increasing problems faced by seniors living in the area. DWINDLING SERVICE In addition to what they saw as dwindling transportation facilities, seniors complained to the forum’s panel of North Vancouver City Mayor Jack Loucks, Metro Tran- sit’s vice-president of planning Larry Ward, and RCMP Cpl. Don Jette that street noise and danger- ous traffic conditions were er- roding Lower Lonsdale’s character and liveability. Though RCMP admit a noise problem exists in the area, little, they said, can be done to ap- prehend violators short of having officers stationed permanently on the problem corners. REQUEST DECLINED The LLSA’s request for a four-way stop at the corner of 4th Street and St. Georges Avenue has _ been looked at, but turned down , by the City of North Vancouver. . A city engineering spokesman said the installation of a four-way stop at the corner would ‘grossly interfere with traffic flow’? and in- crease the noise in the area with has stopping .and starting on the it “To stop traffic at that intersec- tion so soon after the light at 3rd and St. Georges is just not prac- | tical,” the engineering spokesman B.C.
