MANY homeowners
talk about doing some-
thing to increase their
home security but it
never seems to amount
to much more than
that.

There are so many things
that you can de to protect
your house.

When thieves target
homes they generally waat to
get in and out undetected.
Does your property offer
good cover for burglars? Can
the neighbors and people dri-
ving by see vour house or are
you completely covered by
fences and bushes?

Clear or trim bushes close
to your windows to prevent a
crook from using them as a
cover, Are your windows cas-
ily accessible from the base-
ment or ground floors? The
cheapest way to prevent entry
is to block the window with
metal pipes or even a couple
of 2x4s will do the trick.
Make sure they are securely
mounted to the frame.

How good are your locks?
Are they deadbolts? What
abour the door frame? Will it
<ome down with one swift
kick? You can strengthen the
door jamb by installing a flat

goes into.

Deadbolts can be pur-
chased at the hardware store,
but make sure you buy good
quality. You can also get the

holesaw. Be careful when
drilling your door as the
measurements must be pre-

engraver for around $15 at
the hardware store. An alarm
system is a good deterrent
and makes a lot of noise
when activated. There are
some do-it-yourself systems
available, but I recommend
getting a professional firm.

ferent forms and is going to
cost you money and time. IF

ment in your home and your

enter. Alarm activated when
bedroom window opened.
No entry gained.

January 05

2. Mathias Road

Recovered stolen auto.
Vehicle stuck in mud.
Contents of vehicle strewn
about. Ignition tampered
with. Stolen from North
Vancouver, Stolen/recov-
cred: 1990 ‘blue Honda

Prelude.

3. 900-bik. Marine Drive
Theft from auto. Secured
vehicle parked on level B of
parkade. Stolen: rear BCL
plate.
4. Park Royal South
Theft/shoplifting.
Customer was assaulted while
attempting to apprehend sus-
pect. Stolen /recovered: pack-
ages of miniature toy soldiers.
5. Park Royal North
Shoplifting and fraud.
Stolen/recovered: clothing.

6. 100-blk. 21st Street
Break and enter,
Complainant returned to res-
idence and found dark liquid
substance on bathroom floor.
No sign of forced entry into
residence. Stolen: nil.
