Kilimanjaro climb set

A group of climbers begin an
assault on the African conti-
nent’s highest point today.

The 10-person expedition to the top of

Mount Kilimanjaro includes two North

Shore residents. The climb is in support of

the Alzheimer Society of B.C.

“There is a real team spirit with this
group,” Deep Cove's Ian Ross said betore
the team departed tor Tanzania last week,
“We are all going to do our best to raise
awareness and funds for the 40,000 British
Columbians afflicted with Alzheimer's
Diseusc.”

A reported 10,000 people arrempt to
reach Kilimanjaro's 5,895 metre (19,340
ft.) summit cach year. Less than 1,000 suc-
ceed.

workout, the group has been hiking the
Grouse Grind once a week.”

Each climber is pledging at least $5,000
to the socieny, money that will be used to
fund Alzheimer programs throughout the
province. A portion will also be donated to
Alzheimer International for work in Africa.

“This event could never have happened
withaut the support: and hard work of
many psople,” fensen said. “The goorsill
and generosity of the staff, residests and
tamily members of Inglewood have made
all the difterence.

The physiotherapist has brought a tag
bearing the signatures of those supporters
with her and plans to unfurl it on the peak.
