New Year’s resolution list, the
top of which states: Get orga-
nized; plan ahead.

To that end then, it’s Christmas
planning time. No, your watch isn't
slow, but it’s already five minutes to
December. Time to start pumping up
the festive spirit, and more impor-
tantly, find out where you are going
to be eating on Christmas Day.

If you've wom out your welcome
at the in-laws with your bad jokes
and penchant for father-in-law’s
expensive wine selection, you need a
new Christmas Day dining place
with ample servings of comfort and
joy.

Or perhaps you’ve wom out the.
patience and good manners of your
annual Christmas guests with your
less than sterling Christmas Day din-
ing fare. Again, you need a change.

Or maybe you are just plain worn
out with dining at home or at any-
one’s home on Christmas Day.
Right: a change.

You need to dine out. At a restau-
rant. Where everything except the

tab is taken care of for you. Ard, if
you work it right, maybe that, too,
can be taken care of by dining com-
panions bursting with festive spirit.

years.

The Anchor In, for example, is
out. It closed earlier this year. And
the Bridge House Restaurant, which
for the past four years has offered its
annual Christmas Day turkey and

bly swish or cosily intimate
“nouveau” parties.

The popularity of such events in
North America is a triumph of mar-
keting devised by some unknown -

‘genius to whom a statue will one

day be raised in Beaune. It will be
called “The Laughing Negociant.”
Keep in mind that the purpose
of “nouveau” samplings staged by
Parisians is to take a reading on
what NEXT year’s cafe carafe
wine will be like. So sip, swirl and
spit: drinking any quantity of wine
that was frothing at the mouth of a
vat two weeks ago will invite a
case of “Beaujolais belly,” about
which the less said the better.
