editor. His tunnel vision as regards
to Howe Sound Pulp is again evi-
dent in the headline Cuiweer Deaths
Hieh in Howe Sound and in the
first paragraph of his vitriolic at-
tack on my person in his May 34
letter to the editor.

His inference suggests that
cancer deaths were high in Howe
Sound district because of Canfor's
pulp mill presence. For shame,
Terry Jacks! John Spinelli states
that he emphasized in his conver-
sation with you that, while his
cancer research report does docu-
ment higher cancer deaths in this
area than in the rest of the pro-
vince, it establishes no clue as to
causal factors and is’ therefore
open to interpretation.

The Ministry of the Environ-
ment has allowed many of the
province’s older mills latitude in
meeting air emission guidelines to
allow those mills time to achieve
compliance. Again, | remind you
that Canfor, Howe Sound Pulp
and all of its people have been
striving toward this goal — spen-
ding much time, expertise and mil-
lions of dollars to upgrade their
mill and to reduce emissions
without Mr. Jack's recent
diatribes.
