Besides the stand-up bar,
Johnny’s boasts its own
bakery, which sits midway
between front-end cappuc-
cino and back-end restaurant
sections and fills Johnny’s
with a steady production of
homemade breads, pastries
and desserts.

Johnny’s kitchen matches
the restaurant's bakery dish
for dish, sending forth a
wild cross-section of ap-
petizers, soups, sandwiches,
pastas, pizzas, omelettes,
seafoods and red meats.

At the headwaters of
Vancouver's Theatre Row,
in an epicurean wasteland

competition as Hudson

bacon, mushroom and boil-
ed egg, all drenched in a
lively basil-mustard

Scallops and Prawns in
brandy cream sauce ($10.95)
was first class, replete with a
goodly number of both
marine favorites. The sauce
was light, creamy and suf-
fused with gentle b:andy
flavors.

Whiskey Medallions
($9.95) arrived with beef
tenderloins grilled precisely
rare and dressed in a less-
than-loudmouth Jack
Daniels bourbon sauce —
basic meat and potatoes
rendered with flare.
