Youth workers
offer camping fun

CAPILANO COMMUNITY
Services, in cooperation with
a community resource team
made up on the Recreation
Commission, loca! churches,
schools, social agencies and
the RCMP have hired two
summer youth workers for
the Capilano District.

With funding from
Challenge ‘85, Vancouver
Foundation, Kiwanis and the
District of North Van-
couver,the youthworkers will
be operating out of Wm.
Griffin Community Centre
during the summer months.

Doug Hamel and Michele
Wolfe are both students in
the Capilano College Out-
door Recreation program

and will combine their
wilderness, canocing, hiking
and cycling skills to provide
one, two and three day
summer adventures for
Capilano teens.

They are planning weekly
informal barbecues, canoe
repair workshops and Friday
night videos and shooting
pool on a recently donated
table. The emphasis is on
building positive _relation-
ships between themselves
and teens and between teens
and their peers centred
around constructive,
challenging events.

Mary Drop-in.

This centre will be open
on Tuesdays from 9:30-11:30
a.m. through July and the
first weck of August. At a
reasonable cost of $2 for six
sessions, you and your pre-
schoolers can relax and have
some fun.

The children enjoy a pro-
gram of art'and playdough
activities, songs, stories and
play. The parents also have
the opportunity to socialize
by meeting friends and
drinking coffee in the
parent’s room and other fun
activities.

Queen Mary Family
Drop-In Program is spon-
sored by North Shore Family
Services Society and is run
out of Queen Mary Com-
munity School at 230 West
Keith Road. It is within
waiking distance of most
areas in Lower Lonsdale and
near the bus route for the
rest of North Vancouver.
