Victim-offender program

objective of National
Crime Prevention Week
— to try and prevent
crime in the community
and the home.

On the North Shore,
there’s one group of people
who think things should be
taken one step further.

We should try to help the
victims of crime and,
wherever possible, try to help
rehabilitate the offenders so
that they will perhaps be per-
suaded to reform, say
members of St. Leonard’s
Society.

The group is run by ex-
ecutive director Wilma
Douglas-Dungey and _ ad-
ministrative assistant Nerys
Brown and over the past 18
months it has dealt with
about 150 cnme victims and
perpetrators.

Working with the co-
operation of the police and
prosecutors, the program br-
ings together victims and of-
fenders, to the benefit of
both.
