entertainment * automotive © ‘1 MARLINS MEET The North Shore Winter Marlins’ fifth annual invitational swim meet was domin-. ated by the North Shore's two clubs, with the host Marlins taking first and the North Vancouver Crulsers coming a close second. The Marlins’ relay strength proved to be the difference. The club took eight out of the 20 relay events. The club's relay strength was exemplified by ‘the 9-10 boys’ team of Mark Winder, Geoff Green, Mike Lee and Duncan Stronger, which won the medley event Bike owners a orth S by 30 seconds. Mike Lee was joined by Rob Menning, Jason Calla, and Andrew Wilson as they won the 200 metre freestyle event. ' It was a good weekend for the 9-10 Marlins. Scott Knight won both the breaststroke and freestyle 50 metre events. He also took a silver in the fly. cnough to give him the aggregate trophy. Teammate Mark Winder was close on_ his heels in every event. Cindy Hall was the girls’ 9- 10 aggregate champion, earning golds in the 50 metre freestyle and backstroke races. She also brought her team home first in the 200 bees metre relay medley. Her teammates were Erica Zipay, Tania Kennedy and Jill Gardiner. The Marlins picked up another aggregate medal from Andrew Wilson, in the cight years and under boys'category. He had golds in the 50 metre breast and freestyle and a bronze in the backstroke. Other Marlins with good performances were Colin Page. Kendra, Bryson, Helena Strong and Greg Gross. The Cruisers were very proud of their second place finish. Though there are many new members this year, good coaching and e clubs dominate swim competition hard work has payed off for the team. . The Cruisers took two aggregate trophies, Susanne Horvath in the 9-10 girls’, and Brian Lehmann in the 11-12. boys’. Teammates Colleen Buckoll and Sean Heinrich were the respective runners-up in cach class. The 11-12 boys’ relay team of Brian Lehmann. Scan Heinrich, Stephen Bolt and Stephen Klassen won two relays, the medley and the freestyle Other Cruiser victors were Yvonne Hoceller, Colleen Buckoll, John Libal, Kristeen Pichler, Sean Herschmiller, and Shawna Bruce.
