Excellent! And I also commend the govern- ment for their efforts on our behalf. . Mr. Woodyard also took some exception to my comments on guarantors. He said, “... likelihood of ex- posure, not prestige or reputation is the criterion which has been used in developing the list of in- dividuals to whom an ap- plicant for a Canadian passport probably has ready access...” Well, Mr. Woodyard, that may be true for some people, but it sure would make it a lot easier if I could . It’s nice to know that you're a reader. Ive a huge pile of mail which has been personally answered where possible and I have condensed some of the questions of general interest. Since we didn’t make reservations a year ago, we found ourselves’ in something of a spot, trying to find «° suitable ac- commodation on the island of Maui. Luckily, my friend Wellington Lee of Silverwing was able to come up with enough space for a family of five on short notice. The next problem is getting to the airport. When you must be there by 7:30 in the morning you hate to ask a friend to drive you. The airport limousine ‘used to come to the In- ternational Plaza Hotel which wasn’t too bad — a cab ride there would only be about six dollars. This service has been cancelled. The desk clerk at the Plaza gave me a good idea, , _ though. We’re going to rent a car here on the North Shore, drive it to the airport and drop it off. That will cost us about ten dollars — cheaper than a cab. If you happen to be taking your family for the first time SAILING IS ONLY one to Hawaii, I have a few tips that might come in handy: 1. Bring your own beach towels. It makes me spitting mad to head for the shower and find that every towel in the place is crunchy with sand. 2. Make your kids wear thongs. I've found broken glass and sharp shells make a mess out of soft little feet. 3. Watch for red warning flags on the beach. They mean keep out of the water. Small children can be sucked out so fast into - treacherous surf that you'd never get them back. EFFECTIVE FEB of the many opportunities waiting in Hawaii. 4. Never turn your back on the surf. The odd wave is much stronger than average” and will take you out fifty feet before you know it. 5. Nothing less’ than $50,000 additional medical coverage for each member of the family is adequate. ’ Hawaii's medical costs are the highest in the world. 6. Carry proof of citizenship for each member of your family. Passports, birth certificates or citizenship papers are recommended.
