Having been instrumental in starting a juniors’ squash club at Aiko, Biggs is now hoping to find facilities where the juniors can continue to practise and play together. . Biggs said that although there is one squash court at the Delbrook recreation facility and one at Ron Andrews, with only one court recently collected at Lynn Valley Centre. But Clark, who chairs the technical committee dealing with the expansion, said that when the Karen Magnussen addition was first planned, studies showed the public ‘‘didn’t have an overwhelm- ing desire for racquet courts.”’ Accordingly, when budgetary constraints necessitated cutbacks earlier this year, he said the rac- quet courts and gymnasium origi- nally included in the design were dropped from the plans. The district budget for the rec- reation facility’s expansion is $3.4 million, up from the $2.94 million Clark said that although ‘‘chat's a pretty healthy increase in the budget,’' it was necessitated when anticipated funding from North Vancouver City did not material- ize. Clark said the detailed designs for the project, which he expects to see completed by the end of November, will include a wave- action swimming pool, tot pools, wet sauna, weight and exercise area, social activity room and revised administration area.
