A panel of parents, educa- tors and health professionals shared their views on the vatue of the survey at a Tuesday meeting of the school distri standing committee on educa- tion and programs. The Adolescent Health Survey If is admisistered by the Burnaby-based McC Society: a non-profit, govern- ment-funded group which has conducted research on youth health issues since 1977. The 16-page survey, which takes about 45 minutes to complete, asks Grades 7 to 12 students 127 multiple-choice questions on such topics as sex- ual preferences, substance abuse, and parental relation- ships. Asimilar survey conducted in 1998 polled over 40,000 students acresss the province. North Vane: iver was one of 17 school districts to opt out of the process.
