@ Nintendo 64: Zelda, Ocarina of Time (Nintendo) ZeldaGd is a game that was in development for 3 long time and was plagued with delays from day one — not to mention a ludicrous amount of hype. Now that it’s been out for a year or so, we know it was worth the time and effort. Not that I’m terribly pleased with it, bur just about everybody else is. Zelda64, the epic, vast, 3D sword and sor- cery adventure has a story that is almost identi- cal to the SNES Zelda, A Link to the Past. Not that it’s a bad story, it’s just not exactly original here. ‘That’s cheap. Another downside: the camera work is a pain at times, occasionally falling off track, leaving you blind and open to attack. And Navi, your friendly neighbourhood fairy/yuide, makes the gaine kinda easy and, consequently, unchallenging. Still, the game is genuinely fun, mainly due to the ingenuous dungeon design and vastness of Hyrule, the land of Zelda. Graphics are great with no pop up; fog is deftly utilised as an environmental mood effect. The day and night transitions are also a welcome additions to the immersive world. Last I counted, there are more than seven million copies of Zelda Ocarina of Time out there in the world (interestingly, Goldeneye 007 -is the best selling N64 title here in Canada), bur “ game of the century?” I don’t think so, bur it’s still one of rhe best games of all time. Great rental. Excellent purchase. —— Andrew Munroe .@ PiayStation: Centipede (Hasbro) Weil, they're back. Those pesky critters _ from years ago have finally made it onto your PlayStation promising many wacky, fun-filled .. hours. Not only is there a new, go-anywhere 3- DB mode to this version of Centipede, the origi- nal game is in here as well, taking us back to the “good old days”. As for the new look to a vintage game, it’s a ‘real shame the Bra hics have to look this bad. : Everything is bl focky and has pixilation prob- lems — texture warping is also a rampant cye- sore, The touchy control makes things difficult at times as some insect flutters directly in front of vou and vou just can’t hit it. 1 really liked secing the original version of Centipede. It's almost as much fun as playing it's flawed-but- zesttul 3-1) update and, for the most part, the techno music suits the fast, frantic pace. The additional weaponry upgrades are wel- come, tuo. If you can manage to ignore the aforementioned problems that stick out in the 3D version, this PSX Centipede is pretty good- remember, graphics aren't everything and gameplay is still alive and kicking. Great rental. Ok Purchase. — Steven Wilson & Who says cheaters never win?
