IN previous columns, I
have written about the
International Year of
Older Persons.

The United Nations
General Assembly has desig-
nated 1999 as a worldwide
celebration of the contribu-
tion older people have made
to their community, and the
skills we continue to use as
we grow older.

There is also a special
emphasis on intergencra-
tional activities —things we
do with younger people that
will increase awareness of the
special talents we all possess.

Many events are planned
for the rest of 1999.
