Soiling their sacred

Dear kditor:

Doug Collins has once again
coughed out another piece of ine
tellectual oddity.

This tine he affirms that Cana-
dian soldiers went fighting in 1939
to protect “their race."

Collins is not courageous
cnough to mention which race he
is talking about, but we oma
assume that it should be the white
race because, as he says, ‘would
they have gone to China to fight
for the Chinese?"

One may ask which non-whiles
were they fighting against in
Europe in 1939, Could tt be that
for Collins and his ilk, not even
the Germans and the [talians were
white enough to pass the purity

Credit goes to
auto industry

Dear Editor:

Great credit goes to the
automohile industry, Toyota in
particular, for building safer
vehicles.

Note the accident, where a °93
Toyota 4X4 pickup drove off a
ramp at Park Royal, fell 25 feet
on its roof, and the occupants
suffered only minor injuries.

Seatbelts must have played an
important part in the outcome of
that accident.

Really angry

Dear Editor:
Many letters have been written

about another First Narrows
crossing.

Some say that we should save
the Lions Gate Bridge for bikers,
walkers, and its beauty.

Now we all know that this
structure is not earthquake-proof
and since I live in the Capilano
Mobile Home Park I, want the
save-the-bridge proponents. to
know that if it falls on me P'm
going to be really angry.

There is, however, another
aspect to this murderous contlict
that Collins seers to constiuntly
ignore. The Beit. and the Cana.
diany were not alone in: fighting
bravely on the batslefields of the
Second World War,

There were abo Americans —
thousands of them blacks —
Frenchmen and Poles. Gurkhis
and Senegalese, Dutchnien, Danes
and Palestinian Jews as well as
many Sikhs who also spilled their
blood in the trenches of Europe.

And it was always the same col-
or.

Nobody ever complained about
them wearing kepis or turbans or
french berets when they died on
the beaches of Normandy.

A friend of mine, born in Pun-
jab and now fiving in East Van-

couver, has his chest covered with
British war medals which he
proudly wears oo Remembrance
Day conmuneneradions, 1 would
compare his war heroics, bravery
wad courage with that of Dong
Collins at anytime and anywhere,

Two of his brothers, however,
paid the ultimate price so. that
many of us, including Collins!
parents and brothers and sisters in
Bournemouth, England, could be
free,

During the special
November when we commemorate
with awe and respect the (rue war
Neroes of 1939-1945, the ones who
made the supreme sacrifice for the
“human race,’ nobody, not even
a loud-mouth like Doug Collins,
has the right to soil their sacred
memory,
