Three classes being held during the week of May 4 at Carson Graham Secondary School, 2145 Fones Ave., in North Vanocuver will inctude a jewelery-making workshop, a demonstration of color draping and a fecture on diamonds. The Friendly Plastic Workshop on Tuesday, May 5 is a hands-on jewelery making class using a me- dium that is easy and fun to work with. No experience is necessary and participants are asked to bring scissors, a plastic egg flipper and a smail box to the class, which runs from 7 to 10 p.m, Pxople interested in learning more about jewelry may want to sign up for the Diamond Lecture, which takes place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6. During: the. class” participants will learn how to determine the value, color, clarity, cut and carat » weight of a diamond. The Wardobe Planning Workshop is a class that may ap- peal to people interested in discovering their ‘‘seasonal col- or.” The program, which runs 7 to 0 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, provides information on how to create a functional war?robe using colors most flattering. Hospital receives funding for beds THE LYNN Valley Lions Club tecentiy presented Lions Gate Hospital (LGH) with a $10,000 cheque for the purchase of two new hospital beds. The hospital is well into its Bed Replacement Program, with a goal _ of replacing the 720 beds which have been in service an average of 25 years. More than 280 beds have been replaced to date. The majority of funds spent on new beds has becn raised through communtiy efforts. “The response from the com- munity fas been fabulous. North Shore service clubs, in particular, have , been tremendously suppor- tive,’ says Melanie Mahlman, LGH ‘diner of development. Most individuals who come to the hospitai spend a great deal of time in a bed. Peopie can under- stand the need, she adds. The new beds are appreciated by patients as well as staff because they are more comfortable than the former models.
