The brochure states that Nep-
tune improved the ‘‘environmental
quality’* of its operations over the
last seven years and will spend $2.3
million this year alone on en-
vironmental! projects.

Since 1984, Neptune has con-
structed eight new settling ponds
for liquid effluent. A dry bulk dust
system will be in operation by

which also points out that Neptune
provides full-time employment for
about 235 people and pays approx-
imately $1,040,000 in property
taxes, $487,000 of which goes to
the North Vancouver City.

“The expansion would generate
an additional $350,000 in tax reve-
nue, create six more permanent
jobs and 100 person-years of
employment during construction,
as well as provide long-term secu-
rity for existing employees,”’ the
company said.

But Andy Baak, president of the
Cloverley Residents’ Association,
said the brochure includes no new
information and that Neptune has
failed to address environmental
concerns.
