Another excellent source of
assistance is the B.C. Genealogical
Society, which has about 700
members in the province.

They have regular meetings with
speakers on various aspects of
research as well as classes to get
you started. They also have a
library at 2nd and Trutch in Van-
couver, but because of fire regula-
tions it is only open to members.

Membership is $20 a year and
members receive various publica-
tions and newsletters. For more in-

Not only is it considered bad
luck to speak of the dead (China)
but Shirley doesn’t speak any
Chinese. So she took ber Mom
along to do the translating. How-
ever, Mom translated only what
she thought Shirley ought to hear
and most of the interesting stuff
remained firmly locked in the fam-
ily closet.

Mind you, maybe Dad’s stories
were a lot closer to the truth than
the ones my ex-missionary aunt
allowed out for publication!
