plunges into creek

A 19-YEAR-old West Vancouver woman remains in critical condi-
tion after the car she was driving veered off Keith Road and
plunged inte Brothers Creek just after 8:30 a.m. Friday.

A West Vancouver Police spokesman said Afsaneh Seyed
Hashemi, of 1240-235 Keith Road, had been travelling west in the
300-block of Keith Road when her car apparently skidded on black
ice, crashed through the Brothers Creek bridge guard rail and into
the creek bed below. The vehicle was submerged.

Hashemi, the sole occupant of a 1987 Renault, was extricated by
iwo people who were fishing in the area and by attending
emergency personnel.

on Highway 99

A 32-YEAR-CLD North Vancouver man was killed Friday after-
noon in one of two fats! automobile accidents on the Squamish
Highway over the weekend.

Breat John Conway was killed instantly when he lost control of
his southbound vehicle at 3:36 p.m. Friday and collided with a
aorthbouad truck just south of Britannia Beach on Highway 99.

- A passenger in Conway's vehicle escaped with minor injuries as
did the driver of the truck.

Highway 99 was closed for approximately two hours Friday
afternoon while accident wreckage was °

Christopher Ross Farrell, 22, of Burnaby was also killed in a

| separate collision on the highway Friday night after his car collided

with another vehicle approximately 13 kilometres north of
Squamish.

Knife possession
nets man fine

A WEST Vancouver man was fised $200 in West Vancouver pro-
viecial court Feb. 23 for possession of a weapon dangerous to the
public peace.

A police spokesperson said the charge against Jeffrey David
Hughes, 18, of 1746 Gordon Avenue, stems from a Nov. 15 inci-
dent.

An '85 Buick Skylark driven by Hughes, and a secoad vehicle
were travellisg north on the Lions Gate Bridge at approximately
11:45 p.m. The driver of the second vehicle told police that he was
driving ic the centre lane when he was suddenly cut off by Hughes’
vehicle. The driver caanged lanes but said he was cut off again.

The complainant recorded Hughes’ licecce number and alerted

Police seek
stolen sword info

NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP are on the lookout for three cer-
emonial swords stolen from a North Vancouver store some time
between Jate Jan. 20 and early Jan. 21.

Thieves cut a hole through the bottom Ieft hand corner of the
display window at Creative Engraving, 1544 Lonsdale Avenue. The
swords were removed through the hole in the window.

The three-foot-long swords are made of Damascus steel and have
ornamental handles bound in gold and silver wire. One sword hilt
kas an ornamental lion’s head on it. The other two are replicas of

Ferdinand IT] Spanish swords and have blades engraved with in- |

terlaced patterns. The swords are unique in B.C.
Information about the theft may be forwarded to the local

RCMP detachment at 985-1311.
