JOHN AMBULANCE CELEBRATES 60 YEARS WHEN MEMBERS of the North Shore branch of St. John Ambulance were figuring out how to celebrate 60 years of service in the community, they knew they wanted to do more than simply ~nount a commemorative plaque on a wall. Said local St. John Ambulance chairman Jacquie Bjornson, ‘‘We really wanted to do something special. We wanted to give a gift to the community — this gift of first aid.”” The gift will be received in the form of a one-hour instructional television program. The program will be broadcast every Monday in June at 8 p.m. on Shaw Cable’s community television channel 4. The broadcast incorporates core portions of a $1.2 million modular emergency first-aid video instruc- tional program developed by St. Jokn. Viewers will learn about ar- tificial respiration, choking, bleeding and shock-related life- saving skills.
