Jailed teacher loses licence A FORMER West Vancouver elementary school teacher convicted of sexually assaulting young male students has had his teaching certificate cancelled by the College of Teachers. Alan Tsutomu Homma, 39, who is currently serving a five-year jail term, was found guilty by the College of professional miscon- duct following a hearing held after his conviction in October on charges of sexually assaulting Gvo former mate siudenis. Nan jailed for indecent calls AN 18-YEAR-OLD Coquitlam man was sentenced Nov. 21 in West Vancouver provincial court to three days in jail and placed on probation for six months after he was found guilty of making in- . decent telephone calls. Lawrence Carrier was originally charged with three counts of making indecent telephone calls to alarm or annoy in connection with two calls made on Sept. 16 and one made on Sept. 18 to a West Vancouver female. Appearing before Judge R.D. Grandison, Carrier was found guilty on all three charges and sentenced to three-day jail terms on each. The terms will be served concurrently. BC Rail blasts tunnel A PATH through a new 896-metre BC Rail tunnel on the shores of Seton Lake was successfully blasted through recently. Contractors working for the North Vancouver-based railway completed the tunnel’s holing-through on Monday. Approximately 26 kilometres south of Lillooet, the tunnel bypasses a treacherous rock outcropping that has caused slides on the company’s mainline four times over the past two years. The most serious line closure occurred two years ago when a slide knocked the line out of commission for 13 days and forced BC Rail trains to detour over CN Rail tracks between North Van- couver and Prince George.
