Maser has a passionate concern for old-growth forests. He is a consultant with his own firm, Sus- tainable Forestry, and held a courtesy chair in forestry at Oregon State University. A former employee of the U.S, Bureau of Personal Ardagh Hunter Land Management, Maser is the author or co-author of more than 160 articles. Maser believes current tree farming practices could prove as disastrous in the long run for the forest products industry as for wildlife. “We’re looking at the wrong end of the forest,’’ he says. ‘*We focus on the trees, not on the process that produces the forest. Yet without sustainable forests we cannot have a sustainable yield of wood fibre.’’ Admission to Maser’s pres- entation is $6 with students, seniors and unemployed paying 34.
