A8 - Wednesday, July 18, 1984 - North Shore News EE mailbox ><] ICBC explains ‘vintage’ Dear Editor: While applauding some of the sentiments expressed by your correspondent Douglas Curne (ICBC Knocked Un- fairly, June 6) 1 must correct a number of factual errors in his interpretation of the Cor- poration’s policy as it relates to Vintage or Classic vehicles. “The Valued Policy to which Mr. Currie refers ap- plies only to vehicles which have been substantially altered from the manufac- turers’ orginal specification at a cost of $1,000 or more. In the event of a total loss this optional coyerage provides payment based upon the appraised value of the vehicle at the time when the. insurance was purchased. It iS important to note that thes? appraisals are carried out by trained ICBC staff at no additional cost. Vehicles eligible for a vin- tage plate are insured under an antique motor vehicle policy. The value insured is based upon the gwner’s declarauion of value. Unless questioned by the Corpora- tion at the time of processing, this becomes the sum insured. All other vehicles, in- cluding Special interest, Col- lector or just plain older cars in good condition are insured for their actual cash value in accordance with the ‘*Princt- ple of Indemnity’’ which has ajways been alive and well at t¥ea.lnsurance Corporation. ae | e owner of an older vehicle™-is concerned about being able to prove its value at the time ef a loss, it is wise to have a set ef good color photographs and copies of all receipts for repairs. ‘An in- dependent appraisal car be helpful but this ts not an ab:? solute necessity. Such documentation may be used as the basis for any claims for damage or total loss. This coverage 1s provided as part of the owner's existing Own Damage policy, with no addi- uonal premium. Patricia Monk Media Relations Mgr. ICBC Towards a moderate majority Dear Editor: ] see Premier Bennett 1s us- ing the family budget analogy to justify his economic and social policies. While not believing that governmental and_ family budgets have to operate iden- tically, let us pursue the fam:- ly paradigm. Do famihies in tough times take actions designed to destroy their inner fabric? Do they pit brother against sister? Parent against child? Force part of the family to suffer so the other stays com= fortable? They do if they don’t know what they’re do- ing or if self destruction is the ulumate aim. eet =i SS, Wik d omega ad dittoe naan aac a The North Shore’s BIGGEST THANKS? tor AY) WEARS, 0 Let us build a moderate majority.
