Citing public health and nuisance problems as the deciding factors, Council re- jected a request by Ted Wouters of 975 Shakespeare Avenue to amend a zoning bylaw to permit the keeping of poultry in the District. Council was not unanimous in their sen- timents concerning pet owner poultry as Mayor Marilyn Baker was in favor of allow- ing the keeping of poultry ‘so that people will have some freedom of choice”’ regarding their pets. Ald. Mary Segal agreed with Mayor Baker adding that council should not be discriminating against chickens.
