The film explores such aspects of pregnancy as mor- ning sickness, emotions to be expected, care of the mother and child and the effects of a pregnancy on family life. None of the participants is a professional actor, and there is a very warm feeling about the film, and an excite- ment about parenting that is conveyed spontaneously and naturally by the cast members all of whom volunteered their time. Unfortunately one of the participants changed his mind about being in the film after it was completed so part of the film thas been reproduced, delaying its release. But the film’s creator, Dr. Bertha Brisco, of North Van- couver, is just glad that her creation. is finally ready for delivery. Brisco made the film for all the wonderful women whose finest hour is in pushing these lumps out. *‘We have a fine health care system’’ she said, adding lores life’s first journey how disappointed she is at most of the pre-natal infor- mation generally available. ‘‘A lot of it comes from the States, and their way is not our way.’”’ As a doctor who does ‘‘a lot of deliveries,’” and a mother of four, Brisco says ‘‘to have healthy babies you need a good standard of education in the community.”’ The Journey was made specifically for highschool students, although it will be available for any group that wants to view it in the com- munity at large. *‘*‘Mothers are doing nature’s work,’’ Brisco says, and believes the experience of pregnancy ‘‘should be everyone’s information.”’ Brisco, who found her film hard work, but very rewar- ding, is now working on a series of twenty minute films for pre-natal classes called Baby’s Best Chance. The Journey premieres at Lions Gate Hospital January 19 and will be available through the hospital and UBC thereafter for anyone who wants to see the debut of Alexandra Procter, to whom the film is ap- propriately dedicated.
