_ C6-Wednesday, August 20, 1980 - North Shore News Canada shown summer and winter Back in 1967 the Canadian government commissioned the National Film Board to create a book to mark the one hundredth anniversary of. Canada’s Confederation. The book, titled “CANADA/A YEAR OF THE LAND”, is a mar- vellous photographic essay on Canada’s most precious heritage - the land. With a text written by Bruce, Hutchison, the book features the work of many out- standing photographers. Starting August 7, Presentation House is proud to present 139 of the 260 pictures in an_ exhibition titled“Canada: Summer and Winter”. In the book, Canada is depicted in transformation throughout the four seasons of the year — magnificent compositions of nature in a hundred moods. For the exhibition Presentation House selected photographs from the chapters on summer and winter. Each photograph is a tribute to the extraordinary mutability and beauty of the land, from the neat and picturesque to the almost surreal. Summer is portrayed through images like the parliament buildings in Ottawa, Standing like a fairy fortress in front of the Rideau Canal at night; a stand of fir trees in Cape Breton silhouetted against a brooding stormy sky; two cedar waxwings in Islington, Ontario caught looking at. each other across _ their brood of hungry fledglings. wes[i fre.
