The two day Ckam- pionship Jamboree, which was hosted by West Van- couver Minor Hockey Association, saw ‘twenty six teams of the Lions Gate League battle it out for top honors in four divisions from Atom to Midget. | North Van and West Van Minor Hockey Associations each captured five awards in the finals, while Hollyburn accounted for the other three top awards. While there were a few one sided games, most remained in doubt right until the final whistle. The young petites team have just completed their first season of play—ever, Having just been introduced to the game early this season, the young players . look to the game on ice with considerable skill. Losing only one game in the round robin series, the North Shore team defeated Aldergrove 10-8 in an exci- ting final. Aldergrove held a commanding 5-2 lead at the half before the North Shore squad shook off their nervousness and_ stormed back to take the provincial title. Coached by Peter Griffin and assisted by Dave Radborne and Wally Pierce, the youngsters finished off a very successful season. The game, still relatively new to the North Shore, is played in a hockey arena on skates. A hockey stick minus the blade is used to pass around an air filled rubber ring. Sunday's highlight was the ‘Pee Wee game between _North, Van and West Van which was won 5-4 by North Van with Kurt Welch notching the winner for North Van midway through the first overtime period. Larry Cubbage, President of the Lions Gate League, indicated that the Jamboree will definitely become an annual North Shore hockey event with hosting responsibility rotating among the four members of the. League. Hollyburn Country Club has been designated as the site for next year’s Jamboree. = i i RECEIVING. THE TROPHY for the championship midget hockey team is West Van team captain Darren Lee. West Vancouver defeated the team from the North Shore Winter Club 4-2. All three local mayors took an active part in presenting the awards for a day full of top notch hockey from these youngsters.
