WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?

The Livable Region Strategic Plan and the Air
Quality Management Plan are based on the ideas you
gave us through workshops, public meetings, letters
and phone-in shows, The Air Quality Management
Plan has now been adapted by the GVRD. The Livable
Region Strategic Plan has been approved in principle.
But that doesn’t mean we no longer need your help. We
have chosen our future - now we have to make ita
reality. This depends on each of us making smail
changes in our lifestyles. And we'll need to work
together on some of the tasks.

Everyone is being asked to do their part. Some
municiyalities are being asked to accept more popula-
tion growth sv that we can stop the sprawl of built-up
areas. Companies’ are being asked to organize van-
pools, showers [or cyclists and even telecommuting for
people who want to work from home some days.

centres we won't have to
travel so far for work, shop-
iG ping, and entertainment. When we do need to travel,
ze, provincial and municipal co-operation will provide more
options such as new rapid transit lines and express lanes
for buses and carpools.
If we still choose to drive, we may be asked to pay
our share of the costs to maintain roads and bridges and
combat air pollution. Bridge tolls and higher parking fees
are possibilities. Tolls and fees will make it less attractive
to commute by car, but they are just part of the strategy.
The flip side is to make other kinds of travel, or even travel-
ling less, more attractive. People should be rewarded for making
transportation choices that make our region more livable,
