August 26, 1994 100 pages “NORTH | earn ry = prreey Office, Editorial 985-2131 Cops score drug cache in North Van hotel room NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP arrested a man Tuesday after a motel employee reported finding drugs in his room. By Bruce Methven Contributing Writer On Monday, David Richard Celmaster, 36, checked into the Holiday Inn Express Cormerly The Maples Motel) on Capilana Road in North Vancouver, according to North Van RCMP. Housekeeping staff entered his room on Tuesday afternoon under the assumption that Celmuster had checked out. Inside the room. the housekeeper noticed bags of what appeared to be drugs its well as a set of scales. The drugs and other parapherna- lia were removed aud motel staff immediately notified police. In the meantime, Celmaster had returned to the motel to discover the contents of his room had been removed. While he was in the lobby asking about the items an RCMP officer arrived at the motel. Police contis- cated 153 grams of cocaine. 16 grams of marijuana and $1,500. Before being taken into custody Celmaster was free pending an appeal of a recent drug sentence. He is being held in custody in North Vancouver on drug possession and trafficking charges. Celmaster has five prior drug convictions and a criminal record dating back to 1979. when he received one year’s probation for possession of a narcotic.
