Versatile gets $103,900 NORTH VANCOUVER-Burnaby MP Chuck Cook announced Friday that Versatile Pacific Shipyards Inc. of North Vancouver has received $103,900 from the federal government's Shipbuilding Industry Assistance Program (SIAP). The money was used by the company to assist it in increasing the length, width and load bearing capacity of its Building Berth Number One in its North Vancouver yard. SLAP provides financial assistance to shipbuilders for facility improvement projects. Demo forest reopened THE NORTH Shore's Seymour Demonstration Forest reopened Tuesday morning after being closed to public access Saturday morning. Greater Vancouver Regional District spokesman Bud Elsie said the 5,600-hectare forest would be open until further notice and the situation re-evaluated daily at 1 p.m. Saturday’s closure was instituted because of the recent warm, dry weather and covered virtually the entire forest except for the area around Rice Lake. Cooler, wet weather on Monday reduced the area’s forest fire hazard, The forest was closed July 27 because of similar dry weather and reopened again Aug. 16.
