City could save $49,000 NORTH VANCOUVER City stands to save over $49,000 by revamping its voters list using provincial data, a report presented to city council Monday indicated. Deputy city clerk Eleanor Rienstra noted the cost of enumeration to update the city voters list would be in the area of $50,000; using provincial information would cost the city up to $800 — a substan- tial savings on the much-needed job. . “The city carried out an enumeration in 1974, ” Riensira said, noting many of the people initially on. that voters list moved and no longer live in the city. This inaccurate list can distort the voter turn-out Statistics, she added. © Elections for North Vancouver City mayor and aldermen are set for this fall, Man fined for accident “A NORTH. Wagner shipped the first of the Tolary vane steering system shipsets to Saint John Shipbuilding Lid., based in Saint John, New Brunswick, Tuesday afternoon. Spread over a four-year period, the total contract is worth $4.5 mil- lion. The contract involves Wagner designing and building the steering gears and control systems for the frigates. ‘‘The steering gear con- verts an electrical signal from the bridge to hydraulic power which moves the rudder. Because of the research we put into it, we have one of the quietest systems available,’ said project manager Steve Holland. The hydraulic fluid manipulates three vanes attached to the upper rudder shaft enclosed in a sealed cylinder. Stealth and durability are vita} in waters shared by potentially hostile submarines. ; Although Wagner is Canada’s largest designer and manufacturer of marine steering equipment, competition for the contract from the U.S. was stiff. “Our design lasts longer.
