A MOTEL OWNER must
make costly improvements
to his street signs as a condi-
tion for renovations to his
motel.

North Vancouver District
Council approved a
development permit to Mvita
Investments for renovations
to the Travelodge Motel on
Marine Drive. But council,
in implementing the Marine
Drive Guidelines policy re-
quires improvements to
signs.

Ald. Joan Gadsby asked
council if it was reasonable
ta request changes to signs.
“'The applicant considers it a
financial penalty,’’ Gadsby
said.

Council was told the cost
of bringing the signs to
district guidelines would be
$10,000. The district requires
the owners of the motel to
file a letter of credit with the
district for $7,500 to ensure
the signs be improved within
two years.

Motel owner A. Shariff
had written to council com-
plaining of the sign require-
ments. Shariff said he does
not object to sign improve-
ments but he could not af-
ford to do it, at this time, in
addition to the renovations.
