And one of those who suffered as the result of the fire is being. sredited with preventing the fire from causing more damage than it did. Ross Gullickson, the resi- dent of a neighboring apartment, suffered from smoke inhalation while fighting the blaze with apartment manager Al Webster. By the time the fire department arrived, just be- fore 10 p.m., the two had successfully doused the flames. Chief Leo tus of the North Vancouver District said the two men should be commended for their quick action. “As it was the damage to the apartment was minimal,”* lus said. According to the fire chief, the blaze was the result of a candle being placed too close to a Christmas tree. The residents of the suite, Mildred and Cecilia Asnder- son, a visiting cousin and that woman's iwo children escaped from the apartment. Mildred Anderson suffered hand and facial burns as a result of the fire.
