uncomfortable? Or have you
spoken about your weight
loss so much that they feel
hurt — and angry? Have you
then lost a friend?

By now you know | don't
believe in forcing people to
lose weight by cajoling,
shaming, commanding. or
tricking. These tactics
usually backfire — and
worse, they keep pcople
dcfhantly locked into the
same destructive bchavior

On the other hand, I do
believe we have a respon-
sibility toward friends to
show we care about their
health and wellbeing.

Generally, modern
shampoos are divided into
two categories by
beauticians — wet shampoos
and dry shampoos.

Professionals use wet
shampoos almost ex-
clnosively, with dry shampoos
used only in exceptional
circumstances and not as a
rule in salons.

A shampoo is required to
clean the hair firstly or
remove excess grease,
lacquer, temporary color
and treat or condition. The
choice of a shampoo is
determined by the type.
texture and condition of the
hair, the type of water used
in the locality or the salon
and the treatment the hair is
to receive after shampooing.

Hair to be _ bleached,
colored or permanently
waved must not be washed
with a shampoo that leaves
any chemical deposits such
as oil or color. This will
affect the process to follow.

Medicated shampoos may
also affect the resulting color
of a tint and oil shampoos
and conditioners may coat
the hair and affect the action
of permanent waving
lotions, preventing the perm

it is imperative to use a
shampoo especially for-
mulated for shampooing
colored hair — more so if
the color is a delicate blonde
which has been applied
following bleaching.

Too often, the wrong
shampoos are used by
mistake, resulting in giving
exactly the opposite result of
the one expected.

When you buy a shampoo

purpose the shampoo has
been made for. Use it as
directed by the manufac-
turer. Your permanent will
last longer and your color
will not fade if you just use
the right product.

Better still, trust your
beautician. He or she knows
what chemical process
yourhair has been treated
with and will recommend the
right product to take home
with you. Even if you are not
a customer in a salon, the
expertise of the professional
is free. Ask.
