C2-Sunday News, March 9, 1980 An entertainment for the whole family Journeys through childhood ‘PORTRAIT OF THE ADULT AS A YOUNG KID,’ the delightfully en- tertaining children's show conceived, written and acted _by John Carroll of Green Thumb Players, >will be performed at Presentation House on March 15 at 2 p.m. Told in story and song, this hilarious, zany and touching journey through the childhood of an adult has already enjoyed great success in Vancouver. It is easy to understand why. During the capsule sketch of growing up, the audience meet “The Kid,” his pet mosquito and the mosquito’s They brother, Gomer. witness the life and death battle between Jackie the Giant Alligator and _ the Schoolroom Rat, identify with the agonies of learning punctuation in second grade and are made aware of the frightening possibilities that there may be untidy, candy- bar munching convicts living in the basement. It is a polished and undeniably professional performance. The added bonus for adults in the audience is that both Carroll's writing and performance evoke memories that all of us have but tend to either suppress or forget. Green Thumb Players are Vancouver's professional school touring company and play to over 75,000 people every year. Twenty new plays have been developed and produced by Green Thumb over the past five years, and they have been invited to perform as far away as London, England. Tickets for the Presen- tation House performance are $2 Adults and $1.50 Childrea. Each band would have 15 minutes of time to play their choice of selections. For the finale, the massed bands would play 2-4 pieces together, chosen by their music directors ahead of the Jamboree. The performance would start at 1:00 on the lawn of the Community Center.
