Band were reunited with their

former band mates for the night.
And what a night, these five
guys together simply rock. The
dynamics must have some kind
of combustible components that
work as a catalyst, fuelling them.
Dave juices sounds from his axe
that are oh-so-sweet, with
ineredible fluidity -Chad is the
backbone keeping Blair with the
program — on drums he has a
defined resonance and style. The
room was full and taking a look
around it was surprising to see
who was incognito.

NINE Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor brought his spectacu-
lar stage show to Vancouver Tuesday night.

For those who don’t know who surf guitar master Dick
Dale is think Pudp Fiction — that twangy, splashy sound thar
echoes throughout the movie, is indeed the onc and only Dick
Dale and we were graced with his presence last Saturday night.

W@ Nickelback and Sevendust at GM Place, June 10

The heading should have included Creed, however the
band cancelled at the very last minute. After being briskly
removed from the pit only moments betore the band was
scheduled to play we were informed that Creed was not going
on. The ofticial word was that lead vocalist Scott had a sore
throat — my guess: the band took a look at the poor turnout
and decided not to play. I think most people are going to want
their nickel back on thts one.

Ope for this fiasco was Nickelback. They were good, in
that Eddy Vedder school of songwriting, not without merit.
The band has been constantly gigging and it’s paying off, in
U.S. bucks. Nikelback are heading south for their deal.

on the boutique level of Terminal One of Paris’ Charles De Gaulle Airport) and a review
of Billy Bragg live in Los Angeles. The lead in the latter brings it all home: “The first
time [heard Billy Bragg’s music was during a lonely, angst-ridden year-long surf trip

through Europe. It was in Ericiera, Portugal...”

A Pertect Circle were up first and primed. The audience
was trickling in as the band took the stage. Featuring lead
vocalist, Maynard from Tool, A Perfect Circle have a definite
Tool palpation. They will be back our way in August for
Summersault 2000. .

Nine Inch Nails (NIN) left A Perfect Circle in its wake.
Trent was indeed the crux, delivering his audience into a sta
of frenzy, then abruptly , whisking them back into a rhythni—
oriented passage of noise, a narcotic delivery of tortured lyrics
and soul. The audience ate it up with a spectacular stage show.

Out in support of their latest release The Fragile/Halo
Fourteen, NIN kicked off their set with “Terrible Lie” and
immediately held the room from then on. The band closed
with “Hurt” off the Downward Spiral CD. Is it all an act or is
this young man as tortured 2s he seems... ‘
