SOROPTIMIST International of North and West) Vancouver
recently held a youth forum in csorth Vancouver on the subject
of Safsnarding the Environment: Youth's Role. Students from
both North and West Vancouver participated in the educational
symposium, which provided an opportunity for the young people
to meet, discuss important social ideas and develop skills as effec-
tive group participants. Myriel Gabelmann and Martin Goetsch
trom Collingwood secondary school, and Maiva Geddes from
West Vancouver secondary school then went on fo participate in
the regional youth forum in Courtenay, B.C. on Halloween.

SINCE 1986, the “Gift To Go” campaign, which supports the
purchase of a specially equipped van for children with disabilities,
has been served by IGA and IGA Plus stores. This vear is no dif-
ferent. Just head to your local IGA — ar Lynn Valley Centre in
North Vancouver and on Marine Drive in West Vancouver —— and
purchase participating sponsors’ products, including: Dairyland,
McGavins, Nestle, Heinz, MJB Coffee, Kraft, Minute Maid,
Quaker Oats, Borden and Hostess/Frito Lay. The food store
chain and the sponsors have committed to donate 2 percentage of
proceeds from the sale of these products to the campaign. :

North and West Vancouver

ON Nov. | in Victoria, 16 North Shore residents were award-
ed The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Silver level certificates of
achievement and leader badges. The Duke of Edinburgh's
Award is a program for all youth between the ages of 14 and 25
to recognize achievement in community service, expeditions,
skills and fitness. The silver level is awarded to youth over the
age of 15. Recipients were: Christine Ellis (Collingwood
school); Melissa Wong (Black Magick Rangers); and Alym
Amlani, Farhad Gulamhusein, Yashina Jiwa, Kanim Mahedi,
Aliya Mawani, Alia Noormohamed, Sorayah Sachedina, Ferzana
Samnani and Salima Samnami (Ismaili Youth Group II). Leader
badges go to adults in recognition of their service to the award
program. Recipients were: Richard Wingate (Collingwood
school); Diane Wong (Black Magick Rangers); and Rashid
Fatehali, Azmin Dhanji, Fayyaz Fatehali, Shabbir Dhalla and
Zahra Lakhani (Ismaili Youth Group II).
