Exposing artists

KIFF Holland, Vange Brossard and W.W.
Holmes: three artists’ names you may not know
but you should, says Yvonne Perreault of the
North Vancouver Arts Council.

These artists and more will be featured at the council’s
next art rental event, Monday, Nov, 24 at the Presentation
House Gallery, Chesterfield Ave. Drop in between
noon to 8 p.m. to view the council’s vast collection of art on
Joan.

The program is designed to increase exposure for local
artists by offering their artwork to the community for a low
monthly fee.

This month, organizers arc offering a spectal deal: two
months for the price of one. The average monthly rental fee
is $12. There are more than 200 works to choose from
including oils, watercolors, lithographs and fine-art pho-
tographs, For more intormation, call the arts council at 988-

Borrowed Black takes theatre-goers to “the wildest tickle of
Labrador” Sunday,

The black-light puppet theatre comes to Centennial
Theatre for wo performances Nov. 23. Showtimes are 11:30

a.m. and 2 p.m.

tion is an adaptation
of author Ellen Bryan
Obed’s children’s
story of the same
name.

But the sophisti-
cated show is not just
for an audience of
children, says
Centenniat’s cultural
services coordinator
Oksana Dexter.

The puppet characters — who are of the human, natural
and supernatural realms — “glow in black fight, float, swirl
and swish across the stage to the measured voice of the nar-
rator,” says Dexter.

As the story goes: the central figure in the play is an
other-worldly being who creates his body and his home by
borrowing bits and pieces from nature. Finally he goes too

far and borrows the moon, causing ecological chaos. Order
is restored thanks to the intercession of local inhabitants and
to prove the truth of the legend, the moon still shows traces
of the repair.

but we know Acclaim could
do better. Good rental. Poor
purchase.
