Aparns Ray, 18, repeated as women’s open-division gold medalist with a meet high score of 36.05. Ray’s performance put the B.C. team ahead of Manitoba for first place in the team category. Leader of the B.C. novice team was 14-year-old Flicka gymnast Angela Orange, the 1992 Tyro winner. Orange won the vault and floor events , finish- ed second on bars, and fourth on beam to capture top spot in her division. Winner in the Argo division (11- to 12- year-olds) was Lise Leveiite, 11, making her first appear- ance at the Western cham- pionships a memorable one. She won the floor event and placed second on bars. SNOWBOARDING... . The O'Neill Canadian Snowbor- ding Federation Amateur Na- tiouals, held last month at Whistler Mountain, saw three North Shore competitors on the podium. Devun. Walsh was the junior men’s freestyle overall champion, finishing first in the slope style event and second in the halfpipe. North Vancouver’s Chris Brown finished third overall in junior men’s, finishing fourth in the halfpipe and se- cond in slope style. Jorii Ricker of West Vancouver ended out of the overall medal action, with a fifth in the dual slalom and a sixth in the Super G. Roberta Cle- ments was the ladies’ freestyle silver medalist, finishing just behind Ontario’s Lori Glazier. Ciements finished third in the halfpipe event and second in the slope style.
