A UNIQUE programs run by the Worth Vancouver District. Fire Department is teaching local youngsters about fire safety. By Surj Rattan News Reporter Fire department: spokesman Terry Abrams said the Mr. Do Bee fire safety education program is a stave production that provides fire and life safety education through entertainment to North Vancouver elementary school stu- dents from Grades 1 to 3. According to fire experts, 90% of all fires are preventable and the Mr. Do Bee show is one of the more popular programs offered by the North Vancouver District fire services to lower fire and fire- relaicd injury incidents through education. Abrams said district firefighters dress up in costumes and act out various coles during the plays. “The Mr. Do Bee program provides a participatory enter- tainment and educational experi- ence and a home safety checklist which encourages the student, with the assistance of alt family members, to inspect their home for various hazards. “Any hazards found are documented on the. safety checklist and returned to the District of North Vancouver fire services,’’ said Abrams. He added that the checklist is an important past of the educa- Uonal program, because it rein- forces the lessons learned and en- sures a safe hame environment for the family by involving the parents. The road show visits three schools a day for 10 days and is filmed by Shaw Cable for local television viewing.
