Put up with poison or revive Inquisition? ‘lo The Hon. Russ Fraser, Attorney General, Province of British Columbia They tell me you are an engineer, not a lawyer. But that is no reason why you should be so thick-headed. You show a gopher-like dimness. Either that, or you are out to please a power- ful pressure group at the expense of the general citizenry. You obviously want the hate laws broadened. In that, you are lining up with the Attorney Gen- eral of New Brunswick, one James Lockyer, who is anxious to serve teacher Malcolm Ross’s head on a platter to the Atlantic Jewish Council and other militants. What you know about that Ross case could probably be writ- ten on a grain of rice. | have ex- plained it before, and will not repeat it now. It is enough to say that Ross is a teacher who has written books to which the Jews take exception. He should have known better, of course, because that is a sure recipe for harass- ment. In case you never knew, let me tell you that writing books critica! of religion could once get a guy’s bum burned over a big pile of wood. We don’t do that sort of thing these days, although there are those whe much regret the passing of the auto da fe. But if you are a Malcolm Ross you can still end up in front of a Human Rights Inquisition, have the media depict you as a creature with horns, and forfeit thousands of dollars in legal fees while your tormentors laugh, the state being happy to pay their costs for them. I am explaining all this as I would to a child, Russ, because | consider you to be a kind of Sergeant Buzfuz. One of your sparkling comments was that no- one can be in favor of hate litera- ture. They can, though. Both sides ran 2 lot of hate lit during World War Two, some of it to excellent effect. The same was true of the recent Gulf affair. But back to the Hon. Lockyer. Queen *995% |HIDE-A-BED SPECIALS | SAVE 20 io 40% DON’T SMOKE F British Columbia Lung Association Doug Collins ON THE OTHER HAND He regrets that charges against Ross under the hate Jaws wouldn’t work, the books in question being based on religious conviction. So he wants this inconvenient loop- hole blocked, and is asking every attorney general in the country to back his noble endeavor. Freedom of speech and religion? What does it matter? In an age of government by witless politicians and pressure groups there is no room for such an old- fashioned Anglo-Saxon concept. Besides, how many votes do the Rosses command? Your comments on these she- nanigans are illuminating. You stated: ‘*To hide behind an organization and call it religious when actually your main purpose is promoting hate literature or hate propaganda is not acceptable in my view.°* I will make a bet you have never read a word of what Ross has written and that you are sim- ply repeating, parrot-like, what Lockyer or the Canadian Jewish Congress and its cronies have told you. I would also guess you haven’t the faintest idea what freedom of speech means, and that if I mentioned John Milton’s Areopagitica you would think I was talking about some new air- craft. But if one man’s religion is another man’s poison, it is better LOVESEATS B95" fo put up with the poison than to revive the Inquisition. There are other things that should interest an attorney gener- al. Once upo.. a time, lawyers were free to take controvers*+:] cases without having their motives questioned. Those who defend murderers, for instance, are not necessarily in favor of murder. But Organized Jewry is after Doug Christie’s head, too, he not only having defended Ernst Zundel, the spreader of ‘‘false news,”’ but also James Keegstra and Imre Finta the ‘war crimi- nal.”* He came to Ross’s assistance in the Human Rights Inquisition, too, the outcome of which is pending. it follows that to some people he is dangerous, and the strangely-named Jewish Civil Rights Educational Foundation, which represents some 700 lawyers and judges is trying to prevent him from taking cases in Ontario. Which would be an effective disbarment. The attempt is wrapped in a lot of pious twaddle about the integ- rity of the justice system and about how Christie uses the courts to air his own views. But it all boils down to how he is a thorn in their side. They wish he would fall off a cliff. Well, there you have it, Russ. But I don’t hold cut much hope of your being able to take it in. So my advice is that being an engineer, you should go off and build some bridges or something and not try to be a lawyer. There are enough lousy lawyers around already.
