It needs attention and. it needs it now. Sometimes the flames can be doused with a Bisrnarck or other homemade pancake-like remedy; but sometimes there’s only one way to put out the fire: De Dutch Pannekoek, mon. Last Saturday, the clock nudging 8 a.m.,.we hit the Table Hopping ’ microbus at full gallop, visions of pannekoeks revolving in our heads, kids roaring, adults swear- ing. Our first destination was the Capilano Road Pannekoek House, but family jaws dropped when we rolled into the diner’s parking lot. it looked as if it had just hosted a World Wrestling Federation stag party: nekoeks. The morning dining doomsday clock moved to within one minute -of detonation, but, held that ex- -plosion sound effects man: there is renovations — not pan-— a second Pannekoek House, which opened recently in the old Pitt Grill Cafe building adjacent to the Oasis car wash. The locaie’ may not be glamorous, but its interior is cosy, its service is friendly, and, most importantiy, its staff produces those delicious and massive crepe-like pannekoeks. Pannekoek Houses are franchis- ed operations, which can mean a raige of food attitudes and qualities as far and wide as the franchisees themselves. But every Pannekoek House I’ve ever been to churns out cheer- fulness and honest grub in the kind of mighty portions in which Northenders love to indulge. It would be impossible in the confines of this column to list the full family of pannekoeks offered at the Pannekoek House. | stop- ped counting at 40.
