How much exercise, and in what form, is good for growing children? Should young children ran distances and weight train? What are valid goals for children’s physical education programs and how can parents evaluate programs in which their children are enrolled? These questions and many others will be the focus of a One-day program on Children and _ Physica! Activity, sponsored by The Institute for Human Per- formance at Simon Fraser University. The seminar, which takes place on Saturday, April 19 at S.F.U., is designed for | | Should kids be competitive? Special talk at SFU parents, coaches and teachers. It will help adults evaluate children’s programs in the content of the child's experiences. Four members of S.F.U.'s Kinesiology Department and Faculty of Education will participate in the program. Dr. W.D. Ross’s topic is growth and physical activity. He'll look at the effects of a child’s body shape and size on the ability to take part in physical activity, and ages suitable to different ac- tivities. Dr. Glen Kirchner will consider how physical education programs are designed for children and how parents can evaluate them.
