Local cyclists ride to victory

NORTH SHORE riders were
among the top finishers in bicycle
races held over the Labor Day
weekend in White Rock.

North Vancouver's Andrew
Hanson finished third in the Tour
de White Rock after posting a time
of 3:10:46 in the three-stage race,
which included a one-kilometre hill
climb and a 60-kilometre criterium

on Aug. 31 and the Sept. 1, 66-
kilometre Hans Steida Memorial
road race.

Brian Walton, a 20-year-old
Simon Fraser University student,
took the overall title with a time
3:09:40.

Vancouver’s
finished second.

Westview Cycle Racing Club
member Les Akins won the 44-

kilometre category four division of
the Hans Steida Memorial Race.
The win gave the 22-year-old
rider the required points to ad-
vance to category three racing.

North Vancouver's Desi San-
salone, 16, finished third in the
category four division.

A total of 191 riders took part in
the seventh annual event.
