being degraded

Dear Editor:

“Native rights’’ are
degrading. Written into our
Constitution they are a “put

feriority and should
therefore be rejected by our
“Fathers of Confederation”
as discriminatory in the
extreme.

All Canadians must be
equal under the law. They
must have equality of op-
portunity when it comes to
employment, access to

Canada can well do without.

When our native people
insist that they have an
inherited title to lands,

resources they are talking
about property, not people.
This is another reason why
“the mght to property”
should be enshrined in a
Canadian Bill of Rights and
Freedoms. But for our
aboriginal neighbours to
base these property claims
on the fiction that they are

demeaned’

With the arrival of nice
weather, I suppose we will
soon see the return of RCMP
“ambushes” at the north end
of Second Narrows bridge.

One of the nice things
about living in this area is the
high calibre of law en-
forcement officers” that
patrol our communities. |
beheve that most of us have
a genuine respect and af-
fection for our cops.

Why they chose to
demean this image by
exercising these speed traps
puzzles me, since it has very
little to do with safety. If

Loughheed draft
an oil company scam

The movement presently
under way in Calgary to draft
Premier Lougheed to head
the P.C. Party is a scam of
the big oi companies and
the wealthy business people .

In other words, Lougheed
is saying: “I don’t intend to
run, but if you lucky people
come and get me, then we'll
see.”

How easy, with Lougheed
in Ottawa. There will be
direct verbal pipeline» to
Alberta telling them to keep
the price of oil up when the
world prices, including the
US.,

anything, the act of waving
off offenders actually creates
a traffic hazard during busy
periods.

The change of speed zone
(without a change in road
conditions) serves to entrap
even the most exemplary of
drivers, myself included.

If, as I suspect, it ts merely
to generate revenue, there
must be more respectable
ways to finance the police
force.

So come on, guys!
Concentrate on traffic of-
fenders, and let the rest of us
